Throughout history, stories and tales were told of mysterious beings and terrible monsters, distant lands and great heroes in times long past. Those who were invoked around the fire and called upon in times of need were lost to stories, retold as myth and legend to the modern audiences. Centuries ago, the gods and goddesses of the world were seen as beings of great power who demanded respect, but with the developing world many were left behind to be forgotten.
Through the development of my work, I began by focusing on the modern Pagans and Witches, many who invoke and worship these ancient deities in their modern lives, however, I wanted to expand my work to embody these legends in my contemporary imagery. Drawing from mythology from across Europe, many predating Christianity, and the mass Christianisation of Western Europe, I learnt these ancient stories and brought their divinity into my photographs, giving them a modern voice.
These beings never truly left us, aspects of them used every day and their stories retold for generations, so by bringing them back into the modern spotlight I hope to spread their words to a modern world and its people who have forgotten. The Old Gods never left our hearts, the presence in our world lasting eternally…
